About Mike

Mike SchlossbergMike Schlossberg is a Councilman-Elect on Allentown City Council. Schlossberg’s education, community involvement, policy knowledge and practical experience have prepared him for a role as a City Councilman. In May of 2009, Mike was overwhelmingly nominated to serve as a Democratic candidate to Allentown City Council, earning 2,447 votes and placing second in a field of seven. In November, Mike finished in a strong third place, earning 6,883 votes, more than enough to result in his election to Allentown City Council.

Schlossberg is employed by the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce as a state-certified Urban Revitalization Specialist, where he works with volunteers, government officials, and business owners to develop and enhance urban communities. As a community activist and organizer, Schlossberg fully understands the importance of having police to walk the streets, ensuring that government has the lowest taxes possible, helping new businesses open, creating new jobs and engaging the community in the political process. In 2009, Mike was rewarded for his efforts when the Pennsylvania Downtown Center named Mike their Downtown Manager of the Year. He was also named “Top 40 under 40 staff” by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives.

Schlossberg has also served as an aide to State Representative Jennifer Mann, where he worked on legislation and constituent services that have impacted the lives of countless Allentown residents. He has also served as aide to Lehigh County Executive Don Cunningham, advising him on matters related to urban affairs and neighborhood revitalization. Both Representative Mann and County Executive Cunningham have endorsed Schlossberg, who is the only candidate with experience working with state, county and local governments. Schlossberg has also been endorsed by the Mayor of Allentown, Ed Pawlowski. Other endorsements include State Representative Joseph Brennan, Allentown Council President Mike D’Amore, Allentown Councilman Peter Schweyer, Allentown Councilwoman Jeanette Eichenwald, Lehigh County Commissioners Daniel McCarthy, David Jones and Bill Leiner, Lehigh County Clerk of Judicial Records Andrea Naugle, Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan and State Representative Robert Freeman.

The son of a former small business owner and teacher, Schlossberg has identified in himself an obligation to improve his community. Schlossberg graduated magna cum laude from Muhlenberg College with a Bachelors degree in Political Science and Psychology, where he also earned admission into the distinguished Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Dedicated to public service, Schlossberg continued his education at Lehigh University, where he earned his Masters degree in Political Science.

Schlossberg is also actively involved in his community. He is a member of the Allentown Jewish Community Center (JCC) and Congregation Keneseth Israel. Additionally, Schlossberg is a member of the Allentown Rotary Club, the board of I Run for Jack (Jack Pressmann Memorial Scholarship Run), an Officer in the West Park Civic Association, a member of Hamilton Street Revitalization Committee, a member of the Allentown Network of Young Professionals Advisory Group and a former member of the Allentown Committee on Government Reform. A lifelong Democrat, Schlossberg also serves as the Treasurer of the Allentown City Democratic Committee and a member of the Lehigh County Democratic Committee Executive Board. He has also served as a political aide to Governor Rendell, Senator Bob Casey, State Representatives Bob Freeman and Joe Brennan, and Lehigh County Judge Michele Varricchio.

Schlossberg is engaged to his fiancé, Brenna, a teacher in the Allentown School District. They are homeowners on 19th street in Allentown.
